Melissa, your photographs are absolutely stunning! Your books are going to be amazing.

I've always wanted a deaf Australian Shepherd. Everyone always tells me "why would you want one? they're so hard to train. why don't you just get a normal dog?" Well, the answer is because they are just as "normal" as any other dog. There is nothing wrong with them at all. I train my dog with hand signals, as well as verbal cues, so I don't see the difference if my next dog is deaf. I'd still be training it the same exact way. I really like how you are bringing attention to people who don't know much. People need to learn that they are just like any other dog. =)

I have 3 dogs and a foster dog and I try not to play favorites, but my latest rescue, Lucio, a deaf pit mix with beautiful blue eyes speckled with brown, has touched my heart so deeply. When I adopted him from the shelter, he had a wound right smack in the middle of his head from a bullet...and yet he is full of joy, runs and plays with total abandon and trusts every one even if they don't trust him. Here he is with my foster dog Lulu. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1761614&l=ad67c484b2&id=1528451576
